The Groups Management tab in RUFUS Race Manager is where you set up start waves or other categories for your event. By assigning participants to these groups, you can automatically apply time offsets (positive or negative) to reflect how each group starts relative to the official clock. This saves time and reduces errors when calculating results for staggered starts or special timing conditions.
Group Label Column
Each row has a color-coded icon (e.g., A, B, C, etc.) that identifies the group. Blue for groups that add times, and orange for groups that substracts time.
Click the label (or the associated row) to edit it if you need to change the group time difference.
Time Difference Seconds (Optional) Column
Enter a time difference in seconds for each group.
A negative value (e.g., -60) subtracts time from participants’ final results—often used to represent earlier start times.
A positive value (e.g., 120) adds time to participants’ results—helpful for groups starting later than the main field.
Add Blank
Use the “Add Blank” button to create new groups. A new row will appear at the bottom of the list, where you can enter a group label and its time difference. The label cannot be changed once it's first defined.
Total Rows
At the bottom right, you’ll see the current number of group entries, which helps you track how many groups are defined.
Create or Edit Groups
Click “Add Blank” to create a new group, or select an existing group row to edit its time difference.
Give the group a clear label, such as “Wave A” or “Rookie Group.”
Define Time Offsets
In the “Time Difference Seconds” column, specify how many seconds to add or subtract from participants’ recorded times.
Example scenarios:
Wave Start: If Wave B starts 2 minutes after Wave A, enter 120
for Wave B.
Early Start Group: If a group starts 60 seconds before the official clock, enter -60
.
Assign Groups to Participants
In the Participants section of RUFUS Race Manager, assign the appropriate group to each individual.
Once a participant is part of a group, their final results will incorporate the offset you’ve defined.
Using the Groups Management tab properly streamlines your event’s staggered or offset start needs. By assigning participants to a group with its corresponding positive or negative time adjustment, you ensure that race results accurately reflect actual start times. With quick editing, and the ability to add unlimited groups, RUFUS Race Manager makes it easy to stay organized and deliver accurate timing for all participants.
